Here&#8217;s a simple recipe to make Ven Pongal:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-eff7deac\"><h5 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\"><br>What are the Ingredients?<\/mark><\/h5><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">1 cup rice<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">1\/2 cup split moong dal<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">4 cups water<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">1 tsp cumin seeds<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">1 tsp black pepper<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">1 inch ginger, finely chopped<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">2-3 green chilies, chopped<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">A pinch of asafoetida (thing)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Cashews<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">10-12 curry leaves<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\">Salt to taste<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-c39ba706\"><h5 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-cyan-blue-color\"><br>How to cook Ven Pongal?<\/mark><\/h5><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wash the rice and moong dal separately in water and keep them aside.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heat 1 tbsp of ghee in a pressure cooker or a heavy-bottomed pan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add cumin seeds and let them splutter. Then add black pepper, ginger, green chilies, asafoetida, cashews, and curry leaves to the pan and fry for a few seconds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add the washed rice and moong dal to the pan and stir well.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add 4 cups of water and salt to the pan and stir well.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cover the pressure cooker with a lid and cook the pongal for 3-4 whistles or for about 20-25 minutes on low flame if cooking in a heavy-bottomed pan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once the pressure is released, open the lid and stir the pongal well.
