How to make Lemon Rice?

What is Lemon Rice?

Lemon rice is a popular dish in South Indian cuisine that is made by mixing cooked rice with lemon juice, spices, and sometimes nuts or vegetables. The dish is known for its bright yellow colour and tangy, citrusy flavour.

The dish is usually made with basmati rice or a short-grain variety of rice that is cooked until fluffy and separated. The cooked rice is then mixed with a flavorful tempering made of mustard seeds, cumin seeds, urad dal (split and skinned black gram), chana dal (split and skinned Bengal gram), and sometimes peanuts. The tempering is then mixed with the cooked rice along with turmeric, salt, and lemon juice. Sometimes, grated coconut or vegetables such as carrots or peas are added to the rice for additional flavour and texture.

Lemon rice is a popular dish in South India and is often served as a part of a full meal or as a side dish with other dishes such as sambar, rasam, or vegetable curries.
