What are the Ingredients?
1 lb chicken, cut into pieces
2 cups basmati rice
3 cups water
1 onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 inch ginger, grated
2 green chilies, chopped
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chili powder
2 bay leaves
4 cardamom pods
4 cloves
1 cinnamon stick
1/4 cup cilantro leaves, chopped
1/4 cup mint leaves, chopped
2 tbsp ghee or vegetable oil
Salt to taste
How to cook chicken Biryani?
- Rinse the rice under running water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 30 minutes.
- Heat ghee or oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds, bay leaves, cardamom pods, cloves, and cinnamon stick. Sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add the chopped onions and sauté until they turn translucent.
- Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and chopped green chilies. Sauté for another minute.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Stir well to combine.
